Discover the pleasures of watercolor landscape painting. This class is designed to explore the methods and techniques of landscape painting. Students will work from their own photographs to learn the use of design, value, color, and atmospheric perspective to create compelling paintings. There will be demonstrations as well as discussions on materials and equipment.
Bring your lunch and enjoy the informal atmosphere of this class.

Session 3  will include opportunities for plein air painting, weather permitting.

Learn how to turn ink and watercolors into the textures of nature or the surfaces of metal, glass or other objects using pens, brushes, color and a mixture of mediums and techniques.  Good drawing skills are needed for this course.

Sessions 1 and 5 - Seven Basic Ink Strokes, Watercolor Flat Washes, Landscape Techniques, including floras, trees, skies,  grasses, and simple structures.

Session 2 and 6 - Seven Basic Ink Strokes, Watercolor Flat Washes,  Fruits, Vegetables, Earth Textures, and textiles

Session 3 - Seven Basic Ink Strokes, Watercolor Flat Washes, The Look of Transparency, Texturing Techniques and Metallic Impressions.

See color in a new way with watercolorist Catherine Hillis and fine tune your powers of observation.  Beginners will learn the basic building blocks and intermediate students will move ahead in mastery of skills.  The focus will be on developing the glow of traditional transparent watercolor painting. The instructor will guide students with demonstrations, positive group critiques, individual coaching and a sense of humor.

Achieve sparkling, clear colors and learn to paint wet-in-wet.
