We grow up seeing things as “icons”; thus, for instance, we learn to see an apple as a vertical round shape with a curved stem on top. Making art is a combination of skill and visual esthetic. In this painting class, we concentrate on developing the visual eye rather than developing extensive mechanical skills. Employing a method of painting used by mid-19th century Italian painters called ‘machiaioli’ - which translates roughly to ‘color patch’ - you learn to see like an artist. Working from direct observation, learn to “see” things as they are, not as our mind perceives them to be, and to translate that vision into a painting. This is an excellent course for both beginner and experienced painters. Acrylic or oil paints may be used.
