WEEK
ONE:
June 18 - June 22

Fun and Fantasy with Clay
Instructor: Cheryl Suitor
Mornings: Mon - Fri, 9am-noon
Ages 6-10.Do you love to play with clay? Do you like to sculpt animals, people and castles? Have you ever made something you can really use? In this camp, we will be modeling clay to create fantastic containers, colorful creatures, dragons, imaginary wizards and more.
Mixed Media Art Extravaganza

Ages 5-9. Do you like to mix things up? Make a painting that is 3-dimensional? Draw with your toes? Do you view the whole world as your drawing board and canvas? Then this is the camp for you! We will put things together, take things apart, look at the work of contemporary artists. Try new unheard of combinations and most importantly, have fun!
Picture This Painting

Ages
6-10. Come to this camp if you absolutely love to paint. We will experiment with exciting and unusual painting tools to create unique and beautiful paintings. Students will learn from the great masters such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Vincent Van Gogh and Georgia O’Keefe. We will paint landscapes, cityscapes, portraits, flowers and jungle animals using watercolors, acrylics, crayon resist and more.

Architectural Drawing
Instructor: Marcia Malloy

Ages 9-12. Students will examine famous buildings around the world including St Paul’s in London, the Louvre in Paris, and the Capital in Washington DC. Using proportions and learning architectural details, students will draw these buildings as well as city scenes, towns, farms and will render them with watercolor, oil pastels, colored pencils and markers.
Painting & Sculpting
Instructor: Carmen Howell
Mornings: Mon - Fri.,
9am-noon
Ages 5-8. Study the 4 elements, FIRE, AIR, WATER and EARTH. Students will discuss each element and use them to create art forms and paintings. Students will be introduced to painter and sculptors who have done this kind of art. Sculpting will be done using clay, paper, cardboard, plaster. Painting projects will use different mediums.
Master Artists: Mixed Media
Instructors: Lori DeMark

1-4pm
Ages 6-9. Learn from the process and techniques of several master artists while exploring pencil, pastel, and watercolor. Students will focus on drawing and painting techniques while learning about a new artist each day. Students will create works of art from large to small like an accordion art book filled with your own small masterpieces. Learn the easy & fast techniques of the masters.
Mask Making

Sculpture

Ages 10-14. Enjoy an exciting opportunity to explore and experience traditional and contemporary sculpture techniques. Students will be exposed to a variety of materials in creating their own sculptures and will leave camp with a foundation of sculpture knowledge and vocabulary.
Medieval Marvels, Magic
and More

Mon. - Fri, 1-4pm
Ages 6-10. Explore the times of princes and princesses, knights and castles. Learn about medieval legends as you weave your own world in your imagination and in your artwork. Create a stained glass window, a dragon and all the wonderful creatures and characters of medieval times.

Ages 6-12. Students will be introduced to five famous artists whose portraits stand out in history. Students will use their knowledge of the artist to produce a piece of art that is their own interpretation of the particular artist’s style. Students will then write descriptive paragraphs, tributes and/or poetry to celebrate the person depicted in their illustration. Art mediums explored will be charcoal, acrylic paint, sculpture and collage.Full or half day.
Let's Build It

Mornings: Mon - Fri, 9am-noon
Ages 8-12. Students will use clay, wood, paper, wire, plaster and other materials to create imaginary buildings and fantastic animals never before seen. They will use their imagination to build sculptures with a variety of techniques. Have you wondered what an architect thinks about before he designs a building? Have you always wanted to try creating a work of art using colorful wire? This camp is for you if you’re ready to roll up your sleeves, get messy and have some fun.

Indian Crafts for Everyone

Afternoons: Mon.-Fri. 1-4pm
Ages 6-12. Did you know that North and South American have over 2000 different Indian tribes and each has its own language, customs and craft objects? Join us on a tour of the great tribes of this continent. Students will create medicine bags from the Powhatans, coil pots from the Anasazi, totem poles from the Tinglets, turquoise necklaces and sand painting from the Najavo and more.
Color and Black & White
Digital Photography

Afternoons: Mon - Fri, 1pm-4pm
Ages 12-17. Open your eyes in an exciting new way as we explore both color and black & white photography. Play with light and shadow. See how color plays a part in the composition of your picture-when to play up the color when to play it down. Emotion and lighting in a photograph will become evident as you discover the art of black & white photography. We’ll also explore various themes of photography and understand how best to compose the subject and how to create photographs with impact. Required equipment: Digital point & shoot camera with the capability to turn off the flash. Camp meets in downtown Leesburg.

FIVE:

Fiber Art is Fun
Instructor: Cheryl Suitor
Mornings: Mon.-Fri. 9am-noon
Ages 8 and up. Have you always wanted to weave like the Navajo Indians or wanted to learn to sew something all by yourself? Students will learn several stitches using bright colors of yarn to design a real home-made pillow. Students will also discover the art of the Navajo tribe and create a woven rug or placemat and learn to sew together robots, stuffed animals and more.
Animals as Artists See Them!
Instructor: Marcia Malloy
Mornings: Mon - Fri, 9am-noon
Ages 6-10. Students will draw, sculpt, and paint Henri Rousseau’s Jungle, an ocean full of Michael Patrick O’Neill’s fish, a garden inhabited by Albrecht Durer’s bugs, an aviary of birds by Audubon, horses by Degas, and the peaceable Kingdom by Edward Hicks.
Animals Around the World

Afternoons: Mon. - Fri, 1-4pm
Ages 6-10. Students will create paintings, sculptures and drawings of animals seen every day and those that live in far off lands. Some artists used books and museums as sources of inspiration, other artists traveled around America to find real animals to draw and paint. If you love creatures that crawl, fly, hunt and soar in the wilderness, then join us for a week of fun and learning as we explore the wonderful world of animals.
Kids-N-Clay Pottery

Afternoons: Mon.-Fri. 1-4pm
Ages 8-12. Your young ceramic artist will create fun and enchanting clay projects and learn the basics of working with clay. This class is designed to expose children to pottery and ceramic sculpture and to stimulate visual awareness as well as hand eye coordination.
Throughout the week, students will be exposed to a variety of projects which will teach them the wonderful potential of clay. Students will create whimsical, fun, colorful pieces of art to take home at the end of the course.
Storytelling Through
Digital Photography

Afternoons: Mon - Fri, 1pm-4pm
Ages 12-17. Spend the week discovering the world of photojournalism. Using visual communication and sequencing of photographs, your photographs can tell a story. Let the moments of an event unfold one photo at a time, or have a common theme through your photos. Gain understanding of creating a viewpoint using composition, lighting and camera angle. You’ll get to know your camera by exploring a variety of techniques. At the end of the week, the story-telling photos will be mounted and displayed within a book handcrafted by each photographer.
Required equipment: Digital point & shoot. Class will meet in downtown Leesburg.

Into the Blue, Green, Grey
or Black Sea

Ages
6-10. What kind of lives are in the oceans today? How many different kids of coral reefs, fish, sea animals and plants are there? Students will paint and sculpt using canvas, acrylic paint, paper, tempera and clay.
I'm A Fine Artist & Explorer

Ages 10-14. Students will learn how to create amazing designs, realistic artwork and expressionistic pieces using pencils, pens, watercolors and acrylics. Explore using lots of fun and different techniques, interesting papers, photos, imagination, our environment, some surprise surfaces and canvas. Draw a realistic scene and then a wild, expressionistic design the next.
Express Yourself

1-4pm
Ages 7-10. Students will explore the places they have lived, the experiences they have had and the memories of different people they have known in their lives in discussions and group activities. The various projects will be made using different types of paper, found objects and paint. The results will be mixed media and cardboard sculptures.
Photomontage, Collage & Fun

Ages 5-9. Students will explore a variety of artistic methods including collage, photo transfer, layerings, painting, drawing and found images to create their favorite paintings and artist books. Students can bring in their favorite family photos and images.

Art From Around the World

Ages 6-10. Students will explore art from various cultures such as Asia and South America and use their own creativity to create original art based on those cultures. We will be using a variety of materials including but not limited to clay, plaster wrap and painting.
Creative Horse Play

Ages 8-13. Take a journey to discover lots of creative and fun ways to draw, paint, and collage HORSES! Ever wonder how to draw a horse’s eyes or velvety nose? Would you love to draw a horse galloping with a flowing mane and tail? We will also learn about the anatomy and confirmation of horses while making our dream horses walk, trot and dance on paper.
Exploring ART

Ages 8-12. Students will get to use a variety of materials to create original works of art. Students’ interest will help guide the curriculum of this class. Materials offered for this class include clay, several types of paint (watercolor, tempera, acrylic), several types of drawing materials (chalk pastels, oil pastels) and several sculptural materials.

Ages 6 -10. Animals can be cultural, seasonal, realistic or abstract and found in many sources including literature, art and nature. All of these angles will be explored as inspiration for the students to create art with animals using a variety of materials including clay, paper maché, painting and printmaking.
Food Fantasy, AM

Ages 6-12. What is your favorite vegetable or fruit? Why not spend a week exploring the art of food in sculpture, painting and illustration. Read poetry about foods from all over the world and select favorites about which to write. Create a food sculpture, paint a still life, compose a food collage, write a critique. Develop a menu for an imaginary restaurant. Write some silly food poems, recipes and odes. Explore your artistic taste buds in the world of visual and written formats. Full or half day.

Learn to observe and draw, paint representational and expressionistic pieces, collage with mixed media and photographs, write poems, phrases, stories, and interesting descriptive words to express your artistic voice.
Fantastic Fiber Arts

5-10. Focus on creativity and the many art forms that fiber can inspire. Projects will include macramé, weaving, coil baskets and, yes, even friendship bracelets.
3-D Watercolor Collage

10-15. Watercolor isn’t what it used to be! Learn a wide variety of painting, drawing and collage techniques that go beyond the ordinary. We’ll also work together to create a collaborative work of art for a local nursing home.
Creative Kids Sculpting

Ages
6-10. Sculpt away! Working with an array of materials and techniques, your child will learn to play with color and placement along the way. We’ll explore color, texture and form, stacked, carved, hollow, natural, line and surface sculptures as well as techniques
including carving, found objects and sculpting with clay. Anything is possible with a little imagination!
