WEEK
ONE: 6/22-6/26
Cartooning
Instructor: Christy Slone

Ages 9-11. Did you ever wish that you could come up with your own comic strip or comic book? Come to Cartooning class this summer and learn the basics and beyond! Students will learn how to draw people, animals, and even objects into cartoons. They will create their own cast of characters to be used in their own original comic strips and a comic book.
Students will also have a chance to make 3D sculptures of their characters.

WEEK
THREE: 7/6-7/10
Fine Artists
Instructor: Julie Cacciola

Ages
9-14. Do you like to draw and want
to learn some cool tricks? Do you like to have lots of choices
for your projects? Do you like to use lots of different materials?
Come to an exciting class where you get to be the professional fine artist. Students will be presented with
a different general project /technique each day. Begin the project
and see where your creativity takes you. Students can do each
project or continue with techniques learned on previous days.
Topics presented are drawing realism, lettering, colored pencil
and oil pastel techniques. Projects will be 2 dimensional in nature.
Painting and Drawing
with the Masters

Drawing and Sculpting

Afternoons: Mon. - Fri, 1-4pm
Ages 5-10. Drawing is the foundation of
art. Develop this natural ability by careful
observation of positive and negative spaces. Subject matter will
vary from still lifes to scenes from your imagination. Enjoy sculpting
in clay while learning about 20th century sculptors. In the first
project students create masks while discussing Native American
and African costumes and their reasons for using masks.Students
will also build animals, heads and faces.
Batik Fun!
Instructor: Carol
Higgs
Afternoons: Mon. - Fri, 1-4pm
Ages 10-16. Come have fun with Batik.
We will make several small fabric pieces in class with emphasis
on developing a theme, subject matter choices, types of composition,
one-color studies, multi-color practice and well cover suggestions
on finishing, framing or sewing. Supply
fee includes wax, dyes tools and gloves. Students should bring: Soft, prewashed, white or off white cotton fabric. Muslin, quilting
fabric, even an old white bedsheet. Bring lots of fabric, it's
possible to do 10 batiks in a day. Fabric with a higher cotton
content absorbs theliquid paint best.

Sculpture I

Ages 10-14. Enjoy an exciting opportunity to explore and experience traditional and
contemporary sculpture techniques. Students will be exposed to a variety materials in creating their own sculptures. Students will leave camp with foundation of sculpture knowledge and vocabulary.
Draw, Paint, Print I

Mon - Fri, 9am-noon
Ages 6-10. Express your creativity by using ink, paint, and a variety of other materials. Students will experiment, explore, and create original works of art. We will use monotype, relief, collograph, and stencil printmaking techniques. Students will also create an image to print on a t-shirt. By the end of the week, students will have a portfolio of artwork to take with them.

the Wonderful World of Animals & Insects

Hip Hop Art

Ages
9-14. Hip Hop is out of the basement and now an international phenomenon. We will look at the relationship of art to this highly diverse and exciting form of music and explore the visual styles and aesthetics of early rap, break-dance and graffiti culture.
Sculpting in Plaster & Clay

Painting

Ages 10-15 . This class will provide an opportunity for students to try out a variety of painting techniques. This class is designed for anyone interested in painting even if they have never painted before, or for those who are already painting but want to continue to improve their skills.
Color and Black and White Digital Photography
Instructor: Jeanette

Afternoons: Mon - Fri, 1pm-4pm
Ages 12-17. Open your eyes in an exciting new way… we’ll be exploring both color and black & white photography. As a photographer, you’ll play with light and shadow. You’ll see how color plays a part in the composition of your pictures… when to play up the color or when to play it down. The emotion and lighting in a photograph will become evident as you discover the art of black & white photography. We’ll also explore various themes of photography and understand how best to compose the subject and how to create photographs with impact. Finished photos will be creatively matted and mounted for display in an upcoming student art show at the Academy.
Required equipment: Digital point & shoot camera with the capability to turn off the flash. We will be photographing outdoors for the majority of the week, so dress for the weather (it will be hot!) and bring a water bottle.

The World of Animals

Ages 5-8. Students wll explore a variety of animals and their environment each day. Students will create 2D and 3D animals using clay, paper mache, paint and pastels.
Fantasy Creatures
Instructor: Karen HassingerMornings: Mon.-Fri. 9am-noon
Ages 8-12. Dragons, mermaids, fairies, castles and creepy creatures! Learn how to draw them all, step by step. Create your own 3-D creature using paper mache techniques, plaster and paint. Students will also create a print of their creature using foam plates, ink and brayers. It will be a week of amazing creations!
Art Ambassadors

Ages 5-8. Let's travel from sea to shining sea making art from all around the world. Create masterpieces using art techniques from abroad and right here in your own back yard. The art of travel has never been so much fun!

Storytelling Through
Digital Photography

Ages 12-17. Spend the week discovering the world of photojournalism. How do photographers get their messages across? Using visual communication and sequencing of photographs, let your photographs tell a story. Let the moments of an event unfold one photo at a time, or have a common theme run through your photos. As a photographer, you will gain the understanding of creating a viewpoint using composition, lighting and camera angle. You’ll get to know your camera through exploring a variety of techniques, from creating a sense of movement within your photographs to artistically capturing a portrait. At the end of the week, the story-telling photos will be mounted and displayed within a book that will be handcrafted by each photographer.

Meeting Modern Masters
Instructor: Melanie Stein Mornings: Mon.-Fri. 9am-noon
Ages 8-12. Students will learn about a different modern artist every day, including their biography and the type of art they created. Then the students will use drawings, painting, printmaking, clay and paper mache to create original works of art that are inspired by what they have learned, using techniques used by the modern masters.
Claymation Animation

Ages 12-16. Have you ever wanted to try claymation? Do you like making your own cartoons? In this class we will look at different types of animation from old school cartooning, to claymation, to modern cgi animation. Students
will have a chance to make their own animations in any of these methods.

Animation, Sequencing...Oh my!

Ages 8-13 . From black eared mice to sponges flipping
patties under the sea, we will look at the world and art of animation
now modernly called sequencing. We
will also look at some of the artists who started the craze of
animation and who make these cartoon pictures come to life. Be
prepared to go where your story telling and picture making has
never gone before.
Rock and Roll Art .Instructor: Conor Backman Afternoons: Mon - Fri, 1pm-4pm
Ages 12-16. Do you like rock and roll? Have you ever wanted to be in a rock band? In this class, students will eplore the connections between art and music through a variety of different mediums. We will look at artists who have created work influenced by music as well. as art that has defined the styles and fashions of certain types of music. Students will have a chance to design their own album covers for a made up band that they create.

Creative Writing & Illustration part 1

Ages 6-12 . By comining the elements of poetry from Shakespeare to Silverstein and the art of bookmaking, students will have the opportunity to create 4 different books based on the 4 elements in natue: Earth, Water, Wind and Fire. Students may choose from different media such as: Collage, Watercolor, Acrylic, and Pen and ink in the creation of their books. Pack a lunch.

Ages 9-14. More than just friendship
bracelets, we will focus on creativity and the many art forms
this medium can inspire. Projects will include macrame, weaving,
coil baskets, and yes, even friendship bracelets.

Sculpture: Mask Making

Ages
14-17.Students examine and discuss masks from around the world then begin creating their own imaginative, mixed media mask. Students develop working drawings to guide them in their mask creations. Artists use cardboard, poultry netting, papier-mâché, glue, feathers, paint, and craft supplies to create a unified, decorative mask. Art elements and principles of design include: shape, form, line, texture, color, balance, pattern and unity.

Walk Like an Egyptian

Ages 8 and up. Learn about Egyptian culture and art. A variety of Egyptian projects will be made in both 2D and 3D using clay collage and paint.
Medieval Clay

Mystifying Magic

8 and up. Come learn the behind the scenes of magic
and find out closley-guarded secrets and skills involved in making
objects disappear! Is the hand really quicker than the eye? Now
you can learn basic to more advanced sleight of hand
techniques and misdirection used to amaze your friends and family.
Receive instruction in the Art of Illusions and magic
with everyday objects from an experienced performer and teacher.This
camp also provides several magic effects and hands-on
performance instruction.
